As a woman, deciding what types of vitamins to take is a daunting process. There are countless vitamins that humans need everyday, which makes it hard for me to figure out which supplements will really be best for my health. I want to provide my body with all the nutrients it needs, but I also don’t want to take 30 pills a day! That’s why I dove into research, and narrowed down a list of the 5 best vitamins that every woman should take.
1. Fish Oil Pills
I’m sure at least five people have already recommended that you take fish oil pills, and I can confirm that these pills are worth the hype. The reason they are so beneficial to women is that they are rich in omega-3 fats, which can’t be made in our body. Omega-3 fats have a ton of unique health benefits, including boosting heart health, increasing brain function and decreasing inflammation. Pretty obvious why this super pill is topping our list!
2. Vitamin A
Vitamin A is essential to making sure you feel great on both the inside and outside. Not only will Vitamin A help your body internally with bone strength and soft tissue health, but it also improves your eyesight and skin! Time to drop the face mask and grab some Vitamin A supplements instead. I’d recommend checking out Puritan vitamins, they have a wide variety of Vitamin A products that you can choose from, including creams, tablets, and combination vitamins.
3. Calcium
For women specifically, taking vitamins with calcium is a must. Women are 4 times more susceptible to osteoporosis than men, and we need to increase calcium intake for lifelong bone health. Calcium is also incredibly important for women in all stages of life. We grow 90% of our bone mass by age 18, so calcium intake in the teenage years can be especially impactful. Women going through menopause also experience accelerated bone loss, so Calcium is crucial through this time of your life as well. Make sure to pass this one on to your daughters, sisters, mothers and grandmothers!
4. Vitamin C
Any coffee addicts out there? Vitamin C is key if you want that same boost of alertness and concentration that you get from caffeine. You definitely want to take Vitamin C for maximal brain power, especially during times of stress when your body and mind need an extra surge.
5. Folate
While Folate, or folic acid, may not be as glamorous as other vitamins, it is one of the most important vitamins you can take as a woman. Folate helps you maintain a strong spinal cord and build red blood cells to prevent anemia. This vitamin is almost always recommended for women who are pregnant, so keep that in mind if you are considering prenatal vitamins.
Remember, every woman is different, and there isn’t one vitamin and supplement regimen that is perfect for everyone. No matter which vitamins you decide to take, make sure to listen to your body and adjust your vitamin regimen as necessary. With that, you’re on the way to your healthiest lifestyle!
