Summary

Created and written by Living Single’s Leigh Davenport, Run the World is a wonderfully diverse take on Sex and the City. This comedy series follows a group of four, 30-something Black women juggling work and love in Harlem, New York. At its core, Run the World is a light-hearted celebration of female friendship.

Each woman faces her own crisis in the show. The bold Renee (Bresha Webb) tries to cling to her optimism in spite of her impending divorce. Meanwhile, Ella (Anna Bordeaux) balances a new journalism job and the return of an old flame (Nick Sagar). As a Phd candidate, Sondi (Corbin Reid) is the intellectual of the bunch, but her life takes a turn when she falls for her thesis advisor (Stephen Bishop). And Whitney (Amber Stevens West), the anxious bride-to-be, finds herself wanting more adventure in her picture-perfect life.

Our Review

Run the World’s first episode, “Phenomenal Women,” is an uproarious romp bursting with energy. It hardly feels like a pilot with its effortless exposition and character development. We also loved the show’s vivacious aesthetic. From fierce costume designs to a lively soundtrack, Run the World captures and celebrates Black culture.

What’s more, the four leading ladies are all lovable and relatable in their own way. Each actress has amazing comedic timing, which makes their banter crackle with energy. Their antics will make you laugh out loud as they share witty truths about being Black women in the Big Apple. Hilarious, sexy, and insightful, Run the World is a must-see!

We will definitely tune in for the remaining seven episodes and encourage you to do the same!
