Who’s ready for more #EmotionalDamage? The long-awaited 6th season of Outlander hit The STARZ App as of March 6. It’s been a minute since Season 5, so we summed up all of the key details from Outlander’s first five seasons. Grab your best kilt, and get ready for one of the biggest television events of 2022!
In the first season, we meet Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a World War II nurse married to Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies), a historian. While visiting Inverness, Claire accidentally time-travels to 1743 Scotland. Thrust into the Jacobite Rising, Claire falls in love with a Highland warrior named Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). Together, they try to foil the evil intentions of Captain Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall (also Tobias Menzies)–the ancestor of Claire’s husband. The season ends with Claire becoming pregnant and escaping to Paris with Jamie.
In Paris, Claire and Jamie continue to rebel against the Jacobites. Battling French royalty and Randall, the couple end up back in Scotland, and Jamie convinces Claire to return to her own time. Back in the 20th century with Frank, Claire believes that Jamie died fighting in the Battle of Culloden. When she finds evidence to the contrary, she decides to go back in time to reunite with her one true love.
In the Battle of Culloden, Jamie manages to slay Randall, ending his toxic reign. After fathering an illegitimate son, Jamie starts a new life as a printer and marries Laoghaire Mackenzie (Nell Hudson). In the 20th century, Frank dies in a car crash, leaving Claire to raise Brianna (Sophie Skelton) as a single mother. Upon Claire’s return, her appearance nullifies Jamie and Laoghaire’s marriage, and Jamie and Claire try to repay her with buried treasure. While hunting for this treasure, pirates foil their plans, and the couple eventually finds themselves stranded in the British colony of Georgia.
Now in North Carolina, Jamie and Claire claim a piece of land for themselves, which they name Fraser’s Ridge. After learning that her parents will die in a fire, Brianna time-travels herself to find them. Little does she know that Roger Mackenzie (Richard Rankin) followed her. In North Carolina, Brianna and Roger reconcile, but Jamie sells Roger to a Mohawk native for a crime he didn’t commit. By the end of the season though, the whole Fraser-Mackenzie clan is reunited on Fraser’s Ridge.
Taking place at the beginning of the American Revolutionary War, this season ramps up the intensity with allegiances being tested and broken. Jamie is torn between his loyalty to Governor Tryon (Tim Downie) and Murtagh Fraser (Duncan Lacroix), the leader of the Regulatory movement and Jamie’s godfather. Despite Jamie’s and Roger’s efforts, Murtagh is shot dead at the Battle of Alamance. Meanwhile, Claire practices medicine, going against the gender norms of the time. As an unjust punishment for her deeds, Lionel Brown (Ned Dennehy) and his cronies capture and assault Claire. Jamie and the men of Fraser’s Ridge save Claire, killing Lionel in the process. Richard Brown (Chris Larkin), Lionel’s brother, threatens to seek vengeance against Jamie and his family.
