Here’s the 411 on the Power Universe

Spanning 8 seasons, Power is one of the biggest universes on cable television—and it’s still growing. Created and produced by Courtney A. Kemp, the Power Universe offers some of the best American crime drama on TV today. You can watch it with a limited time offer for only $5/month for 3 months on The STARZ App!  With the premiere of Power Book III: Raising Kanan right around the corner, we decided to put together a little guide to the Power Universe.

What happens in the original Power Series?

This is where it all started! The six seasons of Power center around James St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), a.k.a. “Ghost”. On the outside, Ghost looks like a clean-cut businessman with his perfect family, impressive penthouse, and successful nightclub. But in reality, Ghost is the ruthless kingpin of a drug empire that threatens to ruin his life. Can Ghost get out of the drug game while keeping his family intact?

Power’s main cast includes Michael Rainey Jr. as Ghost’s son Tariq, Naturi Naughton as Ghost’s wife Tasha, and Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson as Ghost’s rival Kanan Stark.

What happened in Power Book III: Raising Kanan?

Raising Kanan, which premiered this summer, was the much-anticipated prequel series to Power. The 10, hour-long episodes follow the young adult life of Kanan (Mekai Curtis), as he grows up in ‘90s Queens, New York. With that cliffhanger ending, we’re happy to share that Raising Kanan has been greenlit for a second season!

The main cast includes Patina Miller as Kanan’s mother Raq, Omar Epps as Detective Malcolm Howard, and Malcom Mays as Raq’s brother Louis “Lou-Lou” Thomas.

What will happen in Season 2 of Power Book II: Ghost?

In the shocking season 1 finale, Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.) murdered his professor, Jabari Reynolds (Justin Marcel McManus), to protect the Tejada family business. Season 2 will show the aftermath of Tariq’s decision as he struggles to keep his college and drug lives separate. Along the way, an old face returns to the New York drug scene: Kanan (50 Cent Jackson).

Other recurring characters are Monet Tejada (Mary J. Blige), Prosecutor Cooper Saxe (Shane Johnson), and Diana Tejada (LaToya Tonodeo).

What is the future of the Power Universe?

We’re asking ourselves the same question, and we have good news!

As of October, production has wrapped on Power Book IV: Force. The third installment of the Power Universe is about Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) after the events of Power and Power Book II. We don’t know the Book IV release date, but we definitely are hoping for an early 2022 premiere! The Power Universe keeps expanding, and we cannot get enough.

Tune into the Season 2 premiere of Power II: Ghost on Sunday, November 21 on the STARZ App – only $5/month for 3 months on The STARZ App!
