Produced by the OG, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, this bangin’ series hits all the right notes. Mark your calendars, y’all! You can catch new episodes of BMF every week for #BlackMafiaFridays. You’re welcome for making your new year a whole lot better.

If you’re new to the fam, read on as we break down everything you need to know about BMF:

Who is the Black Mafia Family?

We’re glad you asked! Founded by brothers Demetrius “Big Meech” and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory, the Black Mafia Family was a money laundering and drug trafficking organization founded in Detroit in the late 1980’s. What started as small-time drug-dealing expanded into a multi-city distribution network disguised as the hip-hop studio “BMF Entertainment.” Through this front, the Flenory Brothers promoted their own artist, Bleu Da Vinchi, and flaunted their extravagant lifestyle with hip-hop celebrities. By the time the DEA shut ‘em down, it was estimated that the empire had raked in $270 million.

What Happened in BMF S1?

This is the BMF origin story. In 8 packed episodes, BMF follows the two brothers coming up in the rough streets of Detroit, Michigan. You’ll bite your nails down to the quick watching these troublemakers grapple with their parents’ skepticism and their formidable rival (Eric Kofi Abrefa) in the drug game. While the first season charts the brothers’ humble beginnings, the second season will show them inching closer and closer to boss level. Oh, and did we mention that Big Meech’s own son plays the young version of him in the show?!? Da’Vinchi kills as Southwest T, and the super talented main cast will also be joined by Oscar-winning actress Mo’Nique, Leslie Jones of “Saturday Night Live,”  and City Girls rapper Caresha (Yung Miami) Brownlee in the coming season.

There's a documentary too!

Think you’re a BMF expert? Think again! The BMF Documentary is also on the STARZ app, and shows exclusive, never-before-seen content about this infamous drug empire. The BMF Documentary follows the addictive first season BMF. This drama series stars Da’Vinchi as Southwest T and Big Meech’s own son as his younger self. While the fictional series dramatizes the Flenory Brothers’ early years in Detroit, the docuseries uncovers the full progression of their drug empire. Together, the two series give hours for anyone wanting to sink their teeth into this fascinating true crime story.

What are you waiting for? Season 2 of BMF premiered on January 6th, so you’d better get on it and see what you’ve been missing!
