Here’s the 411 on the Power Universe

SPONSORED

Spanning 10 seasons across 4 shows, Power is one of the biggest universes on cable television—and it’s still growing. Created and produced by Courtney A. Kemp in collaboration with Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, the Power Universe offers some of the best American crime drama on TV today.  You can watch it with a limited time offer for only $5/month for 3 months on The STARZ App! With the premiere of Power Book IV: Force right around the corner, we decided to put together a little guide to the Power Universe.

What happens in the original Power Series?

This is where it all started! The six seasons of Power center around James St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), a.k.a. “Ghost”. On the outside, Ghost looks like a clean-cut businessman with his perfect family, impressive penthouse, and successful nightclub. But in reality, Ghost is the ruthless kingpin of a drug empire that threatens to ruin his life. Can Ghost get out of the drug game while keeping his family intact?

In Power’s main cast, Michael Rainey Jr. and Naturi Naughton portray Ghost’s son and wife – Tariq and Tasha. Joseph Sikora plays Tommy Egan, the close confidante of the kingpin. And Ghost’s archenemy Kanan Stark is brought to life by none other than Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson.

What happened in Power Book III: Raising Kanan?

Raising Kanan, which premiered this summer, was the much-anticipated prequel series to Power. Set in Queens, New York, the 10, hour-long episodes follow the young adult life of Kanan (Mekai Curtis) as he grows up into the cold-blooded, ruthless drug lord in Power. Specifically, this first season focuses on the twisted family dynamics between Kanan and his drug queenpin mother, Raquel Thomas (Patina Miller).

This season kept us on the edge of our seats with back-to-back bombshells and plot twists. With that stunning reveal about Kanan’s biological father and a cliffhanger ending, we’re elated to share that Raising Kanan has been greenlit for a second season!

The main cast also includes Joey Bada$$ as Unique, Raq’s rival in the business, Omar Epps as Detective Malcolm Howard, and Haley Kilgore as Kanan’s cousin Jukebox, a character we all remember from Power (portrayed by Anika Noni Rose).

What happens in Season 2 of Power Book II: Ghost?

In the shocking season 1 finale, Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.) murdered his professor, Jabari Reynolds (Justin Marcel McManus), to protect the Tejada family business. Season 2 shows the aftermath of Tariq’s decision. Accused of two murders, Tariq struggles to reassure Monet Tejada (Mary J. Blige) of his usefulness. At the same time, Monet is dealing with her own drama, a love triangle with Mecca (Daniel Sunjata) and Lorenzo (Berto Colon). How will the season tie up these loose ends? We’ll have to see what happens on the February 6 finale!

What will happen in Power Book IV: Force?

The long-awaited Power Book IV will finally premiere on February 6! You don’t want to miss the first Power series totally dedicated to Tommy “The Grim Reaper” Egan (Joseph Sikora). Force picks up right after Tommy left New York City in the Season 1 finale of Power Book II: Ghost. Tommy’s next stop is Chicago, where he plans to build his own drug empire. If past series are any indication, we have a sneaking suspicion that this new endeavor will not be smooth for Tommy.

New cast additions include Lili Simmons as Claudia “Claud” Flynn, the daughter of Chicago’s kingpin, Gabrielle Ryan as Tommy’s possible love interest Gloria, and Jeremih as Elijah, a heavy-hitter in the Chicago drug scene.

What is the future of the Power Universe?

More seasons! Both Power Book II: Ghost and Power Book III: Raising Kanan were renewed for another season. While we don’t have any set dates yet, we expect to see more episodes before the end of 2022. With all this positive press, we’re optimistic that Tommy’s story will continue, too!

But we’re not there yet! Keep up the hype, Power fans. Tune in to the Power double-feature on Sunday, February 6 on the STARZ App – only $5/month for 3 months for a limited time!
